About Mountain Joy, an English Cream / Light Golden Retriever Breeder
Mountain Joy Goldens is owned by me, Bev Jackson, and I am assisted by my husband, Blane. Located on 12 acres in Chaffee County (south central Colorado), we are home to twelve 14ers and from our property we are able to view three of these peaks. We are two hours due west of Colorado Springs and two and a half hours southwest of Denver. We think our mountain setting is a perfect place to breed and raise English Cream / Light Golden Retrievers. Here’s a little information about Mountain Joy Goldens, and how we got started as a Golden Retriever breeder.
Breeding Goldens turned from a passing idea to a business plan when we began our search for a golden retriever to join our family over a year after we had lost our sweet Maya. We had one golden, Belle, but wanted another. Golden Retrievers seldom come through our local humane society in our rural area of Colorado. We applied for a golden through a Front Range golden retriever rescue group, but were declined because we lived too far from the city for the organization to make a home visit.
How We Started as a Smaller Breeder of Golden Retrievers in Colorado
That is when we determined that there might be others in our area and beyond who, like us, love the golden retriever breed but are not able to find what they are looking for: a healthy, golden retriever puppy to be a lifetime member of their family. Our intent is not to breed, sell, and raise expensive show dogs, but rather healthy, well-tempered, smart, and beautiful puppies for family pets.
About Mountain Joy Goldens, Our First Puppy was Named Joy
The startup of Mountain Joy Goldens started with a prayer and resulted in joy coming into our lives in the form of Joy, born on Christmas morning, 2013. Thus, her AKC registered name was Christmas Joy in the Morning. She was one of the smartest and most loving Goldens we have owned and we want to bring the joy of Goldens into the lives and homes of others with Joy’s future litters. Sadly, Joy passed over the Rainbow Bridge in August 2025. However, we continue to breed with subsequent females and males who have passed their health clearances, all to produce healthy, smart, and well-adapted puppies.
In addition to my love of Goldens, I love children. The many children in my life, including our grandchildren, serve on the Puppy Socialization Team.
“And the ransomed of the Lord will return And come with JOYful shouting to Zion, With everlasting JOY upon their heads.
They will find gladness and JOY, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.” -Isaiah 35:10
